Botox Q&A

What benefits does Botox offer?

Many medical treatments use Botox, but its most popular use is for cosmetic purposes. Botox and other neuromodulator injections like Dysport and Xeomin reduce wrinkles and lines on the face, forehead, and neck to create a younger-looking appearance.

Botox eliminates or reduces the appearance of crow’s feet, the little lines around your eyes, forehead lines, and frown lines.

Beyond the aesthetic use, doctors may recommend Botox to reduce or improve migraines or for urinary incontinence treatment.

Will I notice results from Botox immediately?

You may see Botox results within a few days after treatment, but it takes about two weeks to experience full results. Cosmetic improvements from Botox last about six months, after which you can schedule additional Botox treatments to maintain your results.

How does Botox work?

Facial expressions and repetitive muscle movements, along with the natural aging process, contribute to facial wrinkles and lines. Your skin moves with every facial expression. Over time, your skin doesn’t return to its completely relaxed state, leaving wrinkles and lines.

Aging reduces skin elasticity and decreases the production of natural oils. Essentially, your skin becomes drier and more wrinkled.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin injections are minimally invasive and nonsurgical procedures that inject tiny amounts of filler with ultra-fine needles to temporarily block signals that cause your muscles to move. The relaxed state of your muscles with Botox reduces the appearance of wrinkles.

Botox only targets the specific areas in need of treatment to avoid completely paralyzing the face.

Does Botox hurt?

Pain and discomfort from Botox injections are minimal. Botox requires no anesthesia, downtime, or recovery time. You can continue with your regular activities immediately after treatment.

Can I get Botox injections?

Your doctor determines if you are a candidate for Botox injections before scheduling the treatment. Most people can get Botox if you:

  • Are over age 18 and under age 65
  • Do not have allergies to Botox ingredients
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Do not have surgery planned
  • Do not have skin infections

If you can’t receive Botox injections, your doctor may recommend other noninvasive medical aesthetics to help you achieve your cosmetic goals. To find out if you can get younger, healthier-looking skin with fewer wrinkles with Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin, call Village Family Medicine PC or book a consultation online today.
